Without further ado, here are 3 easy Valentine’s Day crafts for early years children.

Mini Fingerprint Heart Canvases

What you’ll need:

  • Mini canvases
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint palette
  • Water jug
  1. Fill a paint palette with some different coloured paints.
  2. Allow children to place their fingers into the paint, before transferring onto the canvas. The aim will be to create the shape of a heart.
  3. Encourage children to experiment with different colours and techniques.

Toilet Roll Lovebugs

What you’ll need:

  • Toilet roll tubes
  • Cardboard
  • A pen
  • A sharpie marker
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint palette
  • Paint brushes
  • Water jug
  • scissors
  • Tape
  1. Choose a colour and paint the toilet roll tube. Allow this to dry.
  2. Take a piece of cardboard and draw a ‘bone’ shape, as well as a ‘y’ shape with two ends (as shown below). Cut out and paint bright colours, leave to dry.
  3. Once the toilet roll tube is dry, choose a bright colour and add a pattern of polka dots or random shapes.
  4. Using white paint, draw two eyes and leave to dry.
  5. Cut the shapes in half, giving you two antennas and two feet per lovebug. Use tape to fix these to the top and bottom.
  6. Use a sharpie to fill in the eyes and a face for your lovebugs.

Wool Hanging Hearts

What you’ll need:

  • Cardboard
  • Wool
  • A pen
  • Scissors
  1. Draw a heart into a piece of cardboard and cut it out.
  2. Wrap some wool around the shape and tie a knot to secure.
  3. Continue to wrap wool around the heart, covering all visible cardboard.
  4. Once done, cut the thread giving approximately 10 cm of length, and thread the end through the top of your heart.
  5. Tie a knot to create a hanging loop for the heart.
